Author Birthdays An easy-to-change bulletin board to introduce special authors to the students.
Authors' Birthdays by Date
Donna Dunbar sends in a note, "Here is an idea to expand on the "Author Birthday Bulletin Board" idea.
Block off a bulletin board in a calendar format with yarn or ribbon. Change the bulletin board monthly and add other notable dates such as student and faculty birthdays; important historical dates; presidents's birthdays; famous "firsts"...A good source for some of this information
is School Library Media Activities Monthly. I have done this bulletin board for 5 years now, and the children look forward to each new month." |

Homework Monopoly "This board is used as a homework motivator. Students make their game piece on the first
day. I laminate them and add a velcro piece to the back. Students move
on the board according to how many homeworks they pass in. I have had
little difficulty with getting homework turned in since I used this system. Children tell younger brothers and sisters and my new students are usually excited about being able to play Monopoly." |

100th Day Celebration "The week before the 100th day of school, pass out a large gallon size ziploc bag to each student.
Tell them to fill the bag with 100 of any item they choose. Hang the bags up as the children bring them in and compare the 100 items and how they fill each bag! It's a great way to work on estimation, measurement, and other math topics." |

Under the Sea "Our summer theme was Under The Sea. I made a yellow submarine and in each porthole using a portable projector I traced a portrait of each staff member. To the extreme right..unfortunately out of view is another set of kelp with a pink fish w/blue fins looking out....the clock was made to look like a bubble and a small school of fish that the children
colored was added.

I'm Thumb-Body Special! "I invented this bulletin board to accompany a unit on
self-esteem. I copied and enlarged thumbprints from Printshop in the
primary colors. I cut laminated letters in primary colors on the
Ellison machine at the Media Center. I also cut a few geometric shapes
for "spunk." When school started, I took a picture of each child. They
got to pose as they wanted. I let them cut their picture out with
Fiskars for interest. They then wrote autobiographical poems, edited
them, and copied them again in ink. I had them press their thumbprints
with primary-color ink pads. They chose their color and made their
thumbprint into animals, flowers, and icons." |

"I am the computer teacher at Holy Trinity School in Lenexa, Kansas. I teach grades k-8. I wanted to make a bulletin board that would give the children a picture in their head of
what the World Wide Web is. I had a friend make the world. I got a picture of a computer from
PrintArtist, and the cute little multicultural dolls came from
www.makingfriends.com" |

"I used the little yarn bugs. I choose sick bugs because I thought they were so cute with the little Band-Aid they hold. I
also used some of the free CD's that come in the mail. I used the eyes and
hands from the yarn bugs and glued them on the CD's right over the name of
the provider and then used twisted pipe cleaners to make the legs. The
"Beware of Computer Virus" sign was made using MSWord. The kids really
enjoy this board." |
