Virgo
Look south to see Virgo, the second largest constellation in the sky (Hydra is the largest). Despite its size, Virgo can be difficult to recognize because it has few bright stars. It lies on the zodiacthe band of 12 constellations along the eclipticbetween the constellations Leo and Libra. Virgos brightest star, Spica, is at the base of a Y of seven stars that extends northwest toward Leo. A supercluster of galaxies sits on the border of Virgo and the constellation Coma Berenices about 20 degrees northwest of Spica. With a small telescope, the cluster can be seen as faintly glowing patches of light.
Need a few more hours in the day? No problem. On June 21, Earth will be at the point of its orbit known as the summer solsticethe longest day of the year. During this day, there will be 15 hours of light.
