image Product Overview
Quest for Camelot Games was an instant hit in our household! It should be noted that this was a case where my kids played this game well before ever seeing the movie, and still thoroughly enjoyed the program.

In all there are 7 activities:

  • Dragon Tales: Create and print your own storybooks using different items and characters from the movie. This is an excellent option with lots of stickers.
  • Make a Minion: Choose from a variety of parts and then let the Minion come to life.
  • Ruber's Barricade: Ruber has created a barricade on the road to Camelot, and Bladebeak is challenging you to break it by bouncing balls of fire at it (Pong-style).
  • Raise a Dragon: Hatch a dragon egg that has been abandoned and raise the dragon by yourself.
  • Magic Potions: Create creatures (Creepy Crawlies, Airy Scaries, Beastly Beings) by following a recipe for a magic potion.
  • Singalong: Sing original Dragon Games by following the bouncing Bladebreak.
  • Ogre's Movie Cave: Watch any of the 6 scenes from the movie.

The characters hosting the game are straight from the movie -- the hilarious two-headed dragon (Devon and Cornwall), Kayley, Garrett, Ruber, and Bladebreak.

The activities represent a fascinating mix of styles -- arcade action, story-making, virtual pet, and creativity. Somehow, though, they come together quite nicely to create an appealing program for a wide variety of children. A lot of the scenes are quite dark, like the movie.

By far the best activity in this game is the Raise a Dragon (although the others are really quite entertaining). This activity is worth the price of the whole program. Help keep the egg warm and dry to let it hatch. The baby dragon is adorable, and he needs lots of care. Don't worry, however, because taking care of him is lots of fun! Feed him his bottle, play music for him, even rock him back to sleep. He will eventually grow into a toddler (teaching him to walk by holding a cracker out to him is adorable) and a preteen before he is ready to fly away and start his own life. There will always be another egg to hatch.

Technically Speaking
Minimum reqs for Windows are a 486/66, 16 Mb RAM, and 4X CD ROM. A Macintosh Power PC is required with System 7.5.1 or higher, 16 Mb RAM, and 4X CD ROM. Either systems require 6 Mb hard drive space.

Skills Covered
storymaking, creativity, hand-eye coordination, music.

Educational Value
As its a title from Knowledge Adventure's Play Zone! series, it is not intended to be highly educational. The story-making activity is great for inspiring kids to create and write their own little stories.

Entertainment Value
The activities are very entertaining for kids who are familiar with the movie or not. The Raise a Dragon activity is especially engaging.

Design
The program is relatively easy to navigate.

Replayability
Of the 7 activities, 3 of them have had tremendous replay value in our household -- Raise a Dragon, Dragon Tales, and Ruber's Barricade have above-average appeal, and the others hold the kids' interest on an average level.

Dollar Value
Quest for Camelot Games is worth the $20 US ($25 Canadian) price tag. It is unique and manages to stand out among the huge numbers of titles in our software collection.
