The graphics in this game are stunning, and the game play is excellent as well. Spyro runs, jumps, and glides in the air. It is great fun just maneuvering him around! This is a fully 3D platform game. Characters are well-developed and Spyro himself is quite adorable. Everything is high quality in Spyro the Dragon. Kids as young as 7 will really enjoy playing this game, but it isn't easy. Very challenging for younger kids, but fun nonetheless. In fact, it is rather quite relaxed and calming in some ways, due in part to the mesmerizing and original music.
The storyline: Gnasty the Gnorc has cast an evil spell on all the dragons -- all but one, actually -- and turned them into crystals. Spyro is the little hero that remains.
The mission: To reclaim the dragon treasure, rescue dragons, and to overcome the Gnorcs.
My son's favorite parts involve chasing a thief who is stealing a dragon egg. You have to charge towards the thief and blow fire when you're close to him in order to retrieve an egg.
Some of the most difficult levels are the levels in which Spyro remains in flight for the entire duration. It takes a lot of practice to get it just right.
Many of the enemies have such character ! Some come at you aggressively, and others run and hide. They say funny things, and some taunt you. Still others tremble in fright when they're cornered.
This is a game that is quite worthy of buying as opposed to renting -- it has a lot of levels and is quite challenging for younger kids. As such, it should have a relatively long shelf life.
