Rugrats: Search for Reptar
Rating: Rating
The Bottom Line
This is a game that should be rented before making a decision to buy. Your kids may play it for a couple of days, then tire of it. Some activities are enjoyable, and diehard Rugrats fans will appreciate the real Rugrats gang voices and music.

image Product Overview
This video game features 3D characters that look, well...weird. Appearances aside, how does the game play? There are some things that are fun to do, but watching the game can make you pretty dizzy. There are real problems with the camera that make the characters difficult to control.

The story is as follows: Tommy has lost the pieces to his Reptar puzzle, and he has to find all 12 of them. Kids direct Tommy in and around his house. They'll find certain hotspots which lead to activities each featuring one of the Rugrats gang. The adventures are rated medium, hard, etc.

Kids go on an adventure in which they must chase the dog Spike who has taken Grandpa's teeth through a maze. They must avoid hungry geese if they don't have bread to feed them. When the babies do get through, a huge goose snatches up Chuckie. Tommy rides on Spike to chase the goose, jumping over obstacles to frantic background music. When found, Tommy has to aim pucks at the goose, avoiding Chuckie of course, and when successful, a puzzle piece is earned that can be placed into the correct position in the complete puzzle.

Another adventure starts when the Rugrats have been abducted by aliens, and it's Angelica to the rescue. She must zap the enemy robots and rescue the babies. In another activity, Chuckie loses his glasses and since he is "it" in the game of hide and seek, he must find his glasses as well as the other babies in the Pickles' home. There are many more of such adventures, plus bonus levels that have kids going on an egg hunt, racing for cookies, and more.

The thing is, kids will want to play this game, regardless of its quality -- at least at first. The pros are that the activities are based on actual Rugrats TV episodes your kids may have watched. Also, there is a lot of content and variety.

Entertainment Value
The adventures are a mixed bag -- some of the activities are relatively fun, others mediocre. The mini-golf activity is notable.

Design
Older kids will get used to the controls, but directing the characters is dizzying. Also, there are so many styles of activities, that younger kids may find it hard to adjust to the different controls that vary from activity to activity.

Replayability
I can't see that this will be a long-term favorite for most kids, but there is a lot to do in the game for motivated children.
