image Product Overview
This is a high-speed, arcade-style racing game that has you racing on 6 different courses in your choice of 16 cars. Boss Rally is the PC version of Nintendo 64's Top Gear Rally, but is updated to include higher resolution graphics, more cars, extra tracks, and higher quality audio. Additionally, it provides the opportunity for multi-player use (over the Internet, LAN, modem or serial cable).

There are various ways to customize your game. Play with a keyboard, gamepad, racing wheel, or joystick. Choose whether you want the tires to be slippy or grippy (or in between), and choose from 3 different shock setups, depending on the weather conditions. You drive at night, in snow, fog, etc. Choose automatic or manual transmission, and how you want to view the action (first-person, third-person, or cockpit).

You can play in Championship Mode that involves advancing through increasingly more difficult courses. Time Attack involves trying to beat the clock, and Quick Race is much like a practice mode that allows drivers to race against computer opponents.

Boss Rally is a lot of fun. A 10 year-old tester thinks it's one of the coolest games he has ever played on the computer. He loved to discover the shortcuts and challenge himself by playing in Championship Mode. Although it doesn't have quite the same power to it as a game like PlayStation's Gran Turismo, it has its own "feel" and nonetheless is great fun for adults and kids alike. The soundtrack is good and features 14 songs from the band Dragline. The courses are longer than your average racing game, which makes it slightly more difficult to memorize all the turns and curves.

Technically Speaking
Minimum requirements are Windows 95/98, a Pentium 233 processor, 32 Mb RAM, and 8X CD ROM. Supported 3D hardware-accelerated video card with 4Mb RAM (Glide, or Direct 3D) required, DirectX6 compatible, 60 Mb hard disk space.

You can use the keyboard to race, but it takes some getting used to. We used a gamepad and found it much easier to control that way.
