After a familiar video introduction (directly from the Dragon Tales television show), kids embark on an adventure with Emmy and Max to visit their dragon friends.
Reciting a magic poem will take the animated characters to Dragon Land where a big Dragon Frog Concert is set to take place. The problem is that the playful dragon frogs have forgotten about the concert and have gone out to play. Preschoolers step in to help find the dragon frogs after first selecting a difficulty level for the game -- easy, medium, or hard. There are three pairs of friends to select, each of which is in charge of an area of Dragon Land. Kids can follow Zak and Wheezy to Meadow Rock, for example, and look for dragon frogs in the colorful areas in that location. In each location, children serach for hiding frogs. They can look for the frogs' faint outlines on the screen, and, if they are having trouble finding all of them, use the "listening flower" to point them in the right direction. As children drag the listening flower across the screen, the sounds of the frogs become louder in the general area of their hiding places!
A "musical mushrooms" activity involves luring the frogs out of their hiding places by repeating musical notes. In Dandelion Forest, children work their way through a maze in order to find one of the frogs. Children have to rebuild a playground with puzzle pieces, and match patterned lamps in order to light up a cave. A cute activity is found at Rainbow Canyon where the rainbow is missing a color. Children can restore the color to the rainbow by directing Cassie to catch "flutterbys" in the sky. In the garden, children extend patterns, and at one point in the adventure, kids play a matching game in order to prepare the frogs for the concert.
The challenges in this program are never too great. The differences in difficulty levels are rather subtle, and even on the highest difficuly level, most children over five years old will not be sufficiently challenged. Most of the activities are not especially original, although they are enjoyable. We liked the fact that revisiting areas brings up different hiding places and puzzles/patterns, even on the same difficulty level.
