The Bottom Line
This adventure-style program is both enjoyable and "doable" for preschoolers, but too short-lived for children 5 years and older.

image Product Overview
Generously spiked with humor and charm, this adventure game based on the feature film, Piglet's Big Movie, offers young children an enjoyable, problem-solving experience.

The goal of the game is to help Rabbit collect all the ingredients for a special soup. Children lead Piglet around Hundred Acre Wood, solving pressure-free puzzles along the way, and working through small dilemmas. Players meet up with many familiar characters—Winnie the Pooh, Owl, Tigger, Eeyore, and Rabbit. (Kanga and Roo are mentioned but never seen). A very charming story line is featured. Players need to collect "haycorns", which are littered throughout the wood, as well as other useful objects (such as a plank!) that will help them on their mission.

Problems to solve include mixed-up spice bottles at Owl's house, a missing key, a large Heffalump trap in front of Pooh's home, and a maze-like path across a stream. One activity involves color mixing and painting, and another involves arranging spices in alphabetic order (from A to D, and then P for pepper—one of the key ingredients in Rabbit's soup).

As charming as the program is, it misses some opportunities to teach and would have had more depth if there were multiple challenge levels. For example, children collect vegetables in Rabbit's garden near the beginning of the game. This activity may have been more valuable if there was a sorting challenge to perform, for example.

Nevertheless, this is a nice adventure program for preschoolers who are not quite ready for the challenges of programs such as Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish.

Technically Speaking
Minimum system requirements are Windows 95/98/Me/XP, Pentium 200 MHz, 32 MB RAM, 120 MB hard drive space, and 8X CD-ROM. Mac users require a G3 300 MHz, System 9.x through OS X, 64 MB RAM, 120 MB hard drive space, and 24X CD-ROM.

Skills Covered
Problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, alphabetic order.

Educational Value
This program is delightfully pressure-free, and requires children to "think through" some small problems. However, we feel that there were some missed opportunities to add more educational value to the game.

Entertainment Value
Generous dollops of humor and charm are featured in this graphically-rich program. Preschoolers will enjoy participating in its interactive story line.

Design
The program is very intuitive for even young children to navigate.

Replayability
Although some minor elements are randomized (for example, the location of Owl's missing key), the second time through the game is largely the same experience. Multiple difficulty levels would have extended the life of this program.

Dollar Value
This CD-ROM carries a suggested retail price of $19.99 US.
