image Product Overview

More than just a quality souvenir of the movie, this action game based on Disney's Lilo & Stitch involves children in a rollicking fun, challenging video game for the PC.

The settings, or levels, of the game are taken straight from the movie, and some expand on the movie's story. Children play as both Lilo, a fiesty, sweet, and rather offbeat Hawaiian girl, and Stitch, an uncivilized alien fugitive who resembles a dog. Each of the characters has special abilities in the game, some of which are common to both. Lilo is able to cast voodoo spells after she collects wooden spoons, and Stitch can turn into a raging ball that is able to bowl over enemies after he's collected enough cups of coffee.

There are three different areas to explore, each with a number of levels and a set of unique challenges. Depending on the area or level that players are moving through, there are flowers, pineapples, and cups of coffee to collect. Children need to dodge or defeat wildlife (like wild boars and spiders), avoid carnivorous plants and even cars along Kaona Road, and deal with pesty tourists as well as the bounty hunters from outer space, Jumba and Pleakley themselves.

Each area of the game (corresponding to different areas of the island) has a different objective--collecting photographs, vinyl records, and tracking devices. In order to retrieve these items, children face twisting trails and plenty of obstacles along the way.

The musical soundtrack that accompanies children throughout the game is pleasing and even relaxing, sometimes contrasting with the frenetic pace of the game. Clips from the movie run in between levels and help tie in the game with the movie's story. These are special treats for both children who have seen the movie and those who have not. A video gallery can be returned to at any time.

Technically Speaking
Minimum system requirements are Windows 95/98/ME/XP, Pentium II class processor,266 MHz, 32 MB RAM, 16-bit DirectX 8.0a-compatible sound card, 8MB video card with 3D acceleration, 16-bit color depth, and DirectX 8.0a-compatible, and 8X CD-ROM. Requires 80 MB of hard drive space.

Skills Covered
Children build skills in eye-hand coordination and reflexes.

Educational Value
This is a video game for the PC and, unsurprisingly, emphasizes fun over education.

Entertainment Value
The addition of movie clips adds extra entertainment value to an already fun and challenging game.

Design
Children need to use the keyboard to get around in the game. Younger children in the suggested age group will take a bit of time to become accustomed to the keyboard controls.

Replayability
There is quite a bit of challenge found in the game, but motivation to master, or "beat", the game is high. Once each path has been completed, kids can return to it to try to beat their best time.

Dollar Value
The suggested retail price is approximately $20 US.
