image. Product Overview
The much-loved children's story by Margery Williams is now available on DVD. The Velveteen Rabbit, part of the Looking Glass DVD series, tells the story of a boy's love for a shy rabbit made of velveteen through superb narration by Meryl Streep, an enchanting musical score, and beautiful illustrations.

This gently-paced video focuses on a sawdust-filled stuffed animal, the Velveteen Rabbit, who was a little boy's Christmas present. The boy loved the rabbit "for at least two hours" before he was forgotten amidst all the excitement of Christmas festivities. He longed for the love of the boy, but he felt commonplace among the more expensive mechanical toys in the nursery. The wise "Skin Horse", the oldest toy in the nursery, offers some hope to the rabbit, telling him that when a child really loves a toy, then the toy becomes real.

The gently suspenseful story sensitively portrays the growing love between the boy and the rabbit, and young viewers can almost feel the rabbit's delight when the boy declares him "real". Later, the Velveteen Rabbit encounters living rabbits, and learns the meaning of the nursery magic that made him "real" to the boy. This poignant story is filled with twists and turns, and concludes quite triumphantly.

The Velveteen Rabbit delivers a beautiful message: love makes us real and our lives meaningful. This enchanting video/DVD quite magically uplifts the emotions and speaks to the heart.
