Product Overview
Based on the popular Scholastic children's book series entitled The Jewel Kingdom, this live-action musical adventure is the first in a planned series of videos designed for kids ages 5-10. Michelle Horn stars as the adventurous and somewhat rebellious Roxanne. While other little "ladies" of the castle are busy combing their hair and practicing their curtsies, Roxanne is where she feels she belongs — in the great outdoors, climbing trees, exploring, and otherwise gallivanting about. It is Coronation Day and she is about to be crowned the Ruby Princess when she gets the idea to run away. What others consider to be the most important day in her life, she dreads as she fears a loss of her freedom and the simple joys in life.

Roxanne's leap out the window starts off a real adventure of discovery. Her faithful friend Twitter (a castle servant) tags along on this journey that brings her to The Mysterious Forest, meeting up with the likes of the dreaded and evil Darklings and the not-so-fierce and forever wise Hapgood the Dragon ("Happy" for short). Happy affords her a magic shield and allows her to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Through her adventures and mishaps, Roxanne not only saves the Kingdom, but learns that she doesn't have to sacrifice her own unique identity in order to take on the responsibilities of the Kingdom.

This musical adventure is outstanding. It delivers a wonderful message, has just the right amount of suspense without violence, and features positive role models. We look forward to upcoming editions in this superb series!

VHS format runs for 45 minutes; DVD is 60 minutes.
