Learning foreign languages is easiest and most beneficial when children are young. Learning one language isn't any more difficult than learning another during the first few years of life, so why not Chinese? With Play and Learn Chinese with Mei Mei, children learn basic Mandarin Chinese with an experienced language instructor as their guide. This video features a classroom setting complete with happy children who demonstrate vocabulary words, games, and songs.
Through songs and movement, children will pick up the following in Chinese:
- body parts
- numbers from 1-10
- actions (shaking hands, hugging, clapping, crying, sleeping)
- song games (Find a Good Friend, Drop the Handkerchief, Pull the Carrot)
- greetings (common introductions including "hello" and "goodbye")
- family words (including "mom", "dad", "grandma", and "grandpa")
- ages (kids learn how to ask and respond to the question "how old are you?")
- traditional Chinese songs
The general format of the video consists of Mei Mei speaking new vocabulary words, singing a song, or introducing a game, and children repeating and performing them.
Production quality is not outstanding, but suffices kids won't notice! The video is rather low-key but happy, providing a relaxed atmosphere for fun and learning.
Kids aged 3, 6, and 9 were quite intrigued by this video. As is reasonably expected, it was the 3 year old who most naturally attempted to repeat the words and songs generally younger kids are more responsive to language learning.
This video runs for 42 minutes.
