Designed to introduce some culture and language to children, this video uses 3D computer animation and fun music to entertain kids. The video starts off with a song about how wonderful a grandma (and grandpa) can be. Many kids will identify with the excitement of visiting grandma. After this opening song, kids are taught how to say "I love you, Grandma" in the video's chosen foreign languages Italian, Polish, Hebrew, Russian, Japanese, French, Arabic, German, Hungarian, Spanish. Kids are then invited to repeat this phrase in each language they are spoken slowly and are accompanied by the phonetic spelling equivalent on-screen. The foreign language equivalents of "Grandpa" are also introduced, followed by interesting facts about each country.
Kids "visit" each of the 10 featured countries and their distinguishing characteristics, customs, and landmarks. The whole video is 20 minutes and is recommended for ages 3-8. The video has an unusual mix of styles and is not traditional animated kids' entertainment. It captured the kid testers' attention from start to finish, although none of them had a huge desire to watch it over again. Some felt the long segment in which kids are expected to repeat the "I love you, Grandma" phrase in the different languages a bit boring. On the other hand, the children seemed to absorb some interesting information about different cultures, and the whole experience seemed to be a positive one. There are just too many languages covered and too few phrases presented to really obtain much in the form of foreign language instruction, but the intention is to expose children to the wonderful idea that the world is a much bigger place than the neighborhood they live in.
