To watch the video clips, you will need either the free RealPlayer or the free Windows Media Player. Our older clips are available only in the Real format. More recent clips are available in both Real and Windows Media formats.

Downloading the free players
When you link to the Real.com site or the Windows Media site, you’ll see on-screen, step-by-step instructions for downloading and installing the players. Just make sure that you pay attention to where you save the downloaded file.

At some point during the process, your computer will give you a “Save-As” dialogue box. Many people just click “OK” because they don’t want to change the file name, not realizing that this box also lets you choose where to save the file. How many plug-ins have gotten lost this way, and are living out there somewhere with the socks that never made it home from the dryer?

We recommend saving the file to your desktop. With PCs you’ll end up with an .exe file; with Macs you’ll get an Installer icon. Either way, just click to install and use the default settings for where to put the player.

Once you have your player installed, you can pretty much forget about it. The player will launch automatically when you select one of our video clips in the Video Clips area or elsewhere on the site.

If you are having trouble playing video, consider the following: Video clips were not developed for modems slower than 28.8 Kbps and work optimally with a 56 Kbps modem or DSL line. Also your browser should be at least Netscape 4.x or Internet Explorer 4.x.
