DISCOVERYSCHOOL.COM'S JUNK BOX WARS TEACHER CHALLENGE CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR CLAIM PRIZE. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. OPEN ONLY TO LEGAL U.S. RESIDENTS, 18 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER.

1. ELIGIBILITY: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR CLAIM PRIZE. Open to legal U.S. residents 18 years of age and older. In order to enter the DiscoverySchool.com's Junk Box Wars Teacher Challege Contest ("Contest"), you must be employed as a full or part-time teacher as of the date of entry. Employees of Discovery Communications, Inc. ("Sponsor"), its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies and members of the immediate families (spouses and parents, children and siblings and their respective spouses) and persons living in the same household of such employees are not eligible. Void in Puerto Rico and where prohibited or restricted by law.

2. TERM: The term of the Contest is from 12:01 AM Eastern Time ("ET") on October 7, 2002 until 11:59 PM ET on May 31, 2003 ("Term").

3. TO ENTER: Beginning on October 7, 2002, you may enter the Contest online by visiting http://school.discovery.com/. Click on the "For Teachers" button and then the "Junk Box Wars Teacher Challenge" button/link. Then, click on the "Enter Now" button in the Teacher Challenge box. To complete the online entry form, you will need to provide information including: name, address, email address, school name and address, activity name and description and you will also need to answer certain questions about your activity (collectively, the "Submission") and submit the Submission as indicated so that it is received by Sponsor's server by no later than 11:59 PM ET by the end of the applicable Contest Round. Each activity must be the unique creation of the entrant, be in the spirit of the Junkyard Wars television program, have been successfully tested in the classroom, consist of materials found in the school, classroom or household, be targeted to fourth through twelfth grade students, be aligned to the National Science Education Standards and demonstrate a scientific concept and/or principle. You may only enter once per Contest Round. Each Submission per Term must be unique, i.e., you may not use your Submission to enter more than once. Only the first 50 Submissions per Contest Round will be reviewed. Submissions will not be returned.

4. TO WIN: On or about twenty (20) days after each Contest Round, all eligible Submissions received during the applicable Contest Round will be judged by a teacher or teachers chosen by Sponsor in its sole discretion based upon the following judging criteria: (i) demonstrates a scientific concept or principle — twenty-five percent (25%); (b) aligned with the National Science Education Standards — twenty-five percent (25%); (c) contains all required entry components (as listed in Section 3 above) — forty percent (40%); and (d) be unique and challenging for students — ten percent (10%). The potential winner will be determined by the highest scoring entry. In the case of a tie, all tied entrants will receive the prize.

5. PRIZES: One (1) winner will receive a teacher edition of the Junkyard Wars Video Classroom Kit and a Junkyard Wars premium, approximate retail value of total prize $99.95. Potential winners will be notified by phone, email, mail and/or fax at Sponsor's discretion, on or about twenty (20) business days after each Contest Round.

6. GENERAL: Taxes on prizes and all expenses related to acceptance and use of prizes and not specified are the sole responsibility of winners. By participating, entrants agree [a] to these rules and decisions of Sponsor and Sponsor's judges, which shall be final in all respects relating to this Contest; and [b] to release, discharge and hold harmless Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, agents and representatives and their respective employees, officers and directors from any and all injuries, liability, losses and damages of any kind resulting from their participation in the Contest or their acceptance, use or misuse of a prize. Winners may be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility and a liability/publicity release, where legal, which must be returned within 7 days of attempted notification or an alternate winner may be selected. Winners agree to use of name and/or photograph for advertising, publicity and promotional purposes in all media, including but not limited to on air and within Sponsor's website, www.discovery.com, without compensation (unless prohibited by law) and agree to execute specific consent to such use if asked to do so. If a winner is not of the age of majority in state of residence (i.e., states where the age of majority is over 18), prizes will be awarded in the name of parent or legal guardian. Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, agents and representatives and their respective employees, officers and directors and the Contest judges are not responsible for and shall not be liable for [a] electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind, including without limitation, server malfunction or by any human error which may occur in the processing of entries; [b] failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions; [c] lost, late, misdirected or incomplete entries or mail; or [d] any condition caused by events beyond the control of the Sponsor that may cause the promotion to be disrupted or corrupted. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or suspend the Contest or any portion thereof should viruses, bugs or other causes beyond the control of Sponsor corrupt the administration, security or proper play of the promotion in which case the prize will be awarded based on any eligible entries received prior to cancellation. In the event of a dispute, all e-mail entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the owner of the e-mail account from which they were sent. For these purposes, an e-mail account holder shall mean the natural person assigned to such e-mail account by the Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with such e-mail account. Any questions regarding the number of entries submitted or the owner of an e-mail account shall be determined by Sponsor in its sole, reasonable discretion, and Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest. Entry information becomes property of Sponsor. No prize transfer or cash redemption. No prize substitution except by Sponsor due to unavailability in which case a prize of comparable or greater value will be awarded. All federal, state and local regulations apply. All prizes will be awarded unless Contest is cancelled as provided above.

7. USE OF YOUR SUBMISSION: Except where prohibited by law, entry into this Contest constitutes permission for the Sponsor and its designees, assignees and licensees to (i) use the entire Submission, including but not limited to your activities, descriptions thereof and the name, photograph, likeness, statements, biographical information, voice and city and state address of each entrant and winner, on a worldwide basis, and in all forms of media, including books, whether now known or hereafter developed, in perpetuity, without notification or compensation; and (ii) reproduce the Submission in full or to crop or otherwise edit, create derivative works, or modify the Submission for reproduction and distribution at their discretion (together, the "License"). By entering this Contest you are representing and warranting that you have the right to grant the above License and that the exercise of rights granted herein will not infringe on any rights of any third party, including but not limited to copyright, trademark, unfair competition, contract, defamation, privacy or publicity rights. You will hold Sponsor and its designees, assignees and licensees harmless from any breach of the foregoing representations and warranties.

8. ENTRY INFORMATION: Please note that if you check the "opt-in" box on the entry form for this Contest, you are (i) agreeing that we may share your entry information (including your name, address, email address, etc.) with our promotional partners and other parties; and (ii) granting us, our promotional partners and other third parties with which we choose to share your information permission to contact you about our upcoming shows, promotions or for other reasons.

9. WINNERS' LIST: For a list of winners, mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope to be received by June 30, 2003, to Discovery Communications, Inc., ATTN: DiscoverySchool.com, One Discovery Place, Silver Spring, MD, 20910.
