| Answer the Sphinx's three riddles to open the gates to Thebes. |
|
Ancient Greeks told a story that's hard to resist,
Starring a creature that doesn't exist.
She's a monster that features in many a tale,
Part lion, part eagle, and part human female.
She was the Sphinx, and she loved to ask riddles,
All failed her challenge, which gave her the giggles,
For after three questions, found all who dared try it,
These unlucky people became part of her diet.
So you set out for Thebes and your uncertain fate
You encountered the Sphinx at the great city's gate.
"I've traveled far and I've traveled wide,"
Said the Sphinx in a tone that was ever so snide.
"My riddles all feature great cities I've seen."
"Destroyed," you reply, "Is what you actually mean."
Said the Sphinx, "I won't say those rumors are lies,"
By the way, for each question, you get exactly two tries.
