Viewing Our Site

We hope you enjoy DiscoverySchool.com’s new look—as well as all the new features, tools, and resources for educators. For best viewing, you should set the screen resolution of your computer monitor to at least 800x600 pixels. Here’s how:

On a PC with Windows 95/98

  • Select Settings from the Start menu.
  • Select the Control Panel option from the Settings Menu.
  • Select the Display option from the Control Panel.
  • Select the Settings tab.
  • In the Desktop/Screen area, move the lever until the text below the lever says 800 by 600 pixels.
  • Click the OK button. A message appears indicating that Windows will resize your desktop, and that it might take a few seconds.
  • Click the OK button again.
  • After changing the screen resolution, a dialog box appears asking if you want to keep this setting. Click Yes to keep the setting.

On a PC with Windows 3.1/3.11
  • In the Program Manager, double click on the Main program group.
  • Double click on the Windows Setup option.
  • Select Change System Settings from the Options menu.
  • Click on the arrow to the right of the Display field to access a list of all the possible screen resolutions from which you can select.
  • Scroll through the list and select an 800x600 resolution option. (Note that there may be more than one option, such as “800x600 small fonts”; “800x600 256 color.” However, only certain screen drivers may work with your computer, so that will most likely be the determining factor in your selection.)
  • Click the OK button of the dialog box and a new dialog box appears asking whether you want to install the Current Driver or a New Driver.
  • Select the Current Driver option, which will bring up a dialog box indicating you need to restart Windows for the new driver to take effect. (If you select a driver which is not currently installed on your computer, you need to install the driver on your computer, or try a different driver which might already be installed on your computer.)
  • Click OK to restart Windows, unless you have unsaved files open. In this case, close your files before restarting Windows. Your new screen resolution selection will take effect when you restart Windows.

On a Macintosh
  • Go to the Apple MenuControl Panels, and choose Monitors.
  • Click on the Monitor icon at the top of the control panel and then choose either 800x600 or 1024x768.
  • With the older Mac operating systems, go to the Apple MenuControl Panels, and choose Monitors. Then choose Options, and choose the 800x600 resolution.
  • Remember, when opening the browser on your Mac, be sure to drag the browser window to the full width of your computer screen.

Printing Our Site

Our web site pages have expanded in width to a standard web page size. You may encounter a problem with text cutting off if you try to print the pages. To avoid this problem, you can choose to print the pages in landscape format by selecting "landscape" from your print menu.

Puzzlemaker puzzles will still print to an 8.5 X 11 page size. We have provided downloadable RTF versions of all of our lesson plans for your convenience.
