I see a picture of a boy on your site. Is that you B.J.?
Yes, that is me (although I have grown my hair a little
longer now). Dad took that picture when I just turned
14 years old. Discovery did a little magic with the
picture and put it on my site. If you want, you can
see more pictures of me
on my site.
Hey Beege, how old are you?
As of this writing (April, 2004) I am 17 years
old. My birthday is March 16th. My dad, who helps
me with my site, told me not to tell you his age :-)
What is your real name and why do they call you Beege?
My real name is Bruce Pinchbeck, Jr. but my mom, dad and sister have called me Beege (from B.J. which stands for Bruce Jr.) since I was a baby.
Are you homeschooled?
No, I am in the 11th grade and I attend a school in
Western Pennsylvania. I am starting to look for colleges now.
Hey Beege, are you married?
If I am I have some explaining to do to my mom and
Do you drive yet?
I have been driving for about one year now. Mom and dad tell
me that the best part is paying for my car insurance.
How did you get started with your site?
Our site started in April 1996 kind of by accident. My dad and I were surfing the internet and found a site that had a web editor that we could download and try for 30 days. We downloaded the program and found out that it was not very difficult to make a webpage. We also thought that it would be cool to make a homework helper site that others could use so they would not have to surf all over the WWW to find real good educational links. We had our site up and running within two days. It has grown a lot and has become quite popular over the last two years thanks to all of our fans.
Do you do any traveling since you are now involved with Discovery.com?
I do some traveling for Discovery.com. Actually, traveling is the most exciting part of my work. One summer I went to Chicago to do a promo shoot for Discovery with the "Internet Coach" that was shown in schools around the country. In January (2001) dad and I went to Orlando with Discovery to the FETC conference...this is a big conference for teachers. It was really a lot of fun...I got to meet many teachers and even signed some autographs. I really look forward to traveling more in the future.
Do you ever do personal appearances or give speeches about your site?
Yes, I have given speeches and have done some appearances.
I taught week-long Junior WebMaster courses at Penn
State University (Beaver Campus) during the past three
summers. I will be teaching the course at Penn State again this year, only this time I will be teaching movie production/video editing and robotics.
How did you find all of these cool links for your page?
Dad and I have spent many (and I mean MANY) hours on the Internet looking for good educational links. As our site has become busier with more visitors, many of our fans have suggested real good links.
What is your favorite search engine?
Dad and I almost always use Google when we are looking
for information on the WWW. Ninety-nine percent of
the time we find what we want there. When anyone writes
to us and asks for information on a specific subject,
we usually go to Google.com to find the information
they are requesting.
What are your hobbies or interests?
Well I have many different interests. First I love to play with my computer games and my computer animation programs like Maya. :-) My dad and I like to play laser tag and I play paint ball. My favorite sport is soccer.
How long have you been using a computer?
I can't remember exactly when I began using a computer but dad says I started when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I am pretty good with computers now and sometimes I show my dad and sister new things they can do with the computer.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
I have a sister who graduated from Penn State University in May, 2000. She majored in Advertising and Spanish. Now she is working in central Pennsylvania doing web design and graphics editing. She is definitely a cool sister.
Beege, would you be my penpal?
I get many requests to be a penpal and because of
all of the time that I have to spend on my own school
work plus on our site, I unfortunately do not have
the time to be penpals with anyone. We get about 20
to 40 e-mail messages a day during the school year.
We try to answer everyone who writes to us. I hope
to start up a live chat section on my site that will
let me chat with everyone.
How can I start up my own homepage?
It is not really difficult to start your own homepage. One thing to keep in mind though, is you should try to keep it simple. Most people do not like clicking on sites that have too many graphics -- especially if the graphics are on the first page. Content is really important too. If you want people to visit your site, make sure that your content is really good. If you want to know more about HTML editing and how to start up your own site, go to our Computers and the Internet section.
