Rebecca Pradhan
Plant Ecologist

Rebecca Pradhan is a plant ecologist who works for the Royal Society for the Protection of Nature (RSPN) in Bhutan. She has extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna found throughout the Himalayas. In her job, she works in conjunction with wildlife officials, schools, community groups, and other non-profit conservation organizations to survey, document, and protect native plants and animals. She teaches school children about local wildlife in her spare time. Rebecca is the author of Wild Rhododendrons of Bhutan and Threatened Birds in Bhutan.

Career Path: Rebecca was born in the village of Taba in Bhutan, four kilometers from Bhutan's capital Thimphu. She is self-educated and says, "Most of what I have learned is from nature. All the answers are there." She recently spent two terms at Harvard University as a botany fellow, impressing everyone with her lknowledge. Rebecca can easily recount the genus and species of over 90 percent of Bhutan's plant life off the top of her head. Remarkably, she can identify most plants found in the Himalayas plant from a crumpled leaf or wilted flower.
