The expedition to Makalu Barun National Park brought sixteen scientists together from all over the world. Each participated in the rapid biodiversity survey on behalf of Conservation International. The countries represented on the team included the United States, United Kingdom, Bhutan, China, and Nepal. Each member contributed a different type of expertise to the biodiversity survey. Some studied mammals (mammalogy), others birds (ornithology), reptiles and amphibians (herpetology), insects (entomology), or plants (botany).
