The Balance FirstTMTeacher's Guide helps you easily navigate and implement Balance First™ content within your curriculum. The guide provides five standards-based lessons that will help students understand the concept of energy balance and how to easily apply it to their own lives, as well as suggestions for incorporating the MyPyramid DVD into the classroom. See how lesson plans align with the National Health Education Standards and performance indicators with this downloadable chart.
While this program is comprehensive, we know that students need support from the important adults in their lives, including parents. The Teacher's Guide includes a letter designed to be sent home to parents or guardians about the Balance FirstTM program. It can be downloaded here in English or Spanish.
The Daily Balance is a reproducible, four-page student magazine that puts information about energy balance directly in the hands of students. Students should also be encouraged to share information and activities from The Daily Balance with those at home.
The Balance FirstTMclassroom poster reminds students how simple changes can make a big difference in their lives.
Your support and the support of your colleagues will also be important to students. We encourage you to visit www.americaonthemove.org for more information, and to sign up for America On the Move for free. It's easy to reinforce the lessons by understanding energy balance yourself and modeling the skills in practice.
